Martha says, "Bloggers are No Experts"

If you're a blogger, you've probably seen the Bloomberg video where Martha Stewart talks about her love for The Home Depot, Macy's, and Ralph Lauren... and also mentions that bloggers are not experts. Which is really the part that has bloggers a little excited. Some bloggers are very excited. If you haven't seen it... here it is.

We'd like to give bloggers a forum to respond to what Martha says in the video. If you're interested, here's what you need to do:

Please record a response to Martha's recent statement that "Bloggers are No Experts"
Keep your video to 60 seconds or less.
Start your video with "I'm no expert but..."
Leave your link in our handy form so that we can find the video to share it.
Tag any social shares with #ImNoExpert and #Minute4Martha. We'd love it if you tagged #CraftyHOA as well.
Check out Craftyhangouts.com this weekend as we share your responses.

If you've never done video, give it a whirl! You don't need to be an expert! Just be yourself and make sure to speak slowly! You can record your video with your cell phone and upload it to YouTube, or you can use Google's handy Hangout on Air tool to record your 60-second clip. Google will upload it right to YouTube for you, with no fuss and no editing!

We look forward to hearing what all our fellow non-experts have to say!

I'm no expert... but I did put together this quick video for you (after 4 tries!). I hope you are inspired to join in...

ps - we have our Fall Crafty Hangouts series going on this week here on Crafty Hangouts... check out the awesome fall crafts our bloggers have been up to!

  1. Thank you for that great response. Martha Stewart is a great business woman, I see this attack on bloggers as a defense against losing business to free blogs. She may have a gripe with us, but I have my own grips with her as well. Check out my blog for that post titled simply "Martha Stewart Rant".

  2. I think we all know not every Blogger is as big as vouge magazine editors, but when I go to look up a review or recipe, I don't look to see who the blogger is I'm looking for convenience, and if someone is blogging, they obviously have a huge passion for it and I trust that they have what I'm looking for.

  3. Thanks for sharing this AND for your awesome video response! I'm no expert, but I am a craft blogger...one of many craft bloggers who have previously written sponsored campaign posts promoting Martha's products to help her gain more business. The irony runs thick...

  4. Well put Carolina! I'm not mad at Martha. Everyone has a right to their opinion. However, going forward I'm going to strive to work with brands and products that DON'T voice negative opinions on Bloomberg. Just like fish in the sea there are plenty of paints, glitter and punches on the shelves :)

  5. martha just alienated a good portion of the u.s. population. there are so few "experts", but there are so many more bloggers who are willing to share their *expertise* freely that are topics of interest to me, like junkin', craftin', cookin', decoratin', etc. martha is a sterile corporation, not a loose group of like-minded individuals. it is apparent that martha can't tune into a blogger. i would like to see this video go viral. i, for one, will send it.

  6. I am not expert, but I know what I like and I enjoy crafting . . . my blog is my way of sharing that and documenting that. If I inspire someone else, give them a tip or teach them something they did not know before, that is even better.

Every expert was once a beginner.

  7. I am not a blogger but a "bloggee". I love watching and reading blogs, learning different styles and seeing all the creative things that people think up. If it weren't for bloggers the internet would be a very dull, business oriented forum and I know I wouldnt spend much time surfing! All you bloggers out there...keep up the good work!
