Earlier this week, I wrote a post about the Bloomberg video where Martha says that Bloggers are no experts. In it, we invited bloggers to respond to Martha in a short video, 60 seconds or less.
Responding in video was an important part of this exercise. Video is hard to do. When typing, it is so easy to backspace, fix wording, or adjust the tone of a post. A blog post can easily be edited after a it has been published. Video is much harder. To get a video "just right", you have to record, and re-record, and edit. Words on video are much more difficult than words in print. Which is why they carry so much more weight.
We invited those we are connected to in the blog world (and invited them to invite those that they know), to create a one-minute response video. Over the past few days, there have been hundreds of messages posted in private groups as bloggers digested the video. Some defended, but many crucified Martha in private and closed online forums.
A few bloggers recorded responses, and you'll find those below. Most did not. I know there were lots of valid reasons not to. We gave a short deadline. People had other commitments. Some bloggers are unfamiliar with how to record video. Other bloggers didn't want to add to the din. These are all very valid reasons not to participate. I completely understand all of them.
There were bloggers who found other ways to publicly voice their opinions. Contacting company representatives they work with to voice their support or disapproval. Some posted on their blogs or in public forums. They wanted to be heard by more than just their peers. They wanted more.
As you watch the responses below, think about what your response was to Martha's comment. When she asks the question "Who are these bloggers?" - do you feel that it is rhetorical, or do you want to answer? And when you answer, who is listening?
Thanks to each and every one of our supporters. The bloggers who work with us on this site to make Crafty Hangouts happen. And thank you to all of our amazing readers and viewers - both here and on our individual blogs. We all blog for different reasons, but we are so glad that you are here with us on our journey.
